Glyfada Beach

Glyfada Beach.

Glyfada is more developed than Pelekas. It's livelier, with a wider choice of tavernas, shops, and activities. A long, straight stretch of deep sand, particularly wide at the southern end, the water shelves more deeply than Pelekas, and is more prone to strong currents further out. However, it offers excellent swimming, a wide choice of watersports, and lifeguards in high season. The beach is backed by a whole lot of pretty self-catering bungalows, with a major hotel at the south end, behind which are stunning pine covered cliffs. There's still plenty of choice of tavernas though - those in the middle are louder and livelier, including a couple of beach bars/clubs, while there are several quieter, more relaxed and traditional, places at the generally quieter northern end.

Getting There:

The free minibus runs every couple of hours during the day and into the evening. Since the road goes right past Paradise, the easiest thing is to stop the minibus on its way by. The road winds its way down the hills, and the minibus often stops to pick up local people on their way up to Pelekas village . You'll get dropped off at the bus stop, which is also used by the green bus to Corfu Town (an easy way to combine a morning shopping trip, or evening in town, with a day on the beach). From there, you can either walk straight down the road to your left, which takes you to the middle of the beach, or along to the right, which will take you to the northern end.
